These 1st grade students worked with their table partners to decode four different messages. Each message contained clues they had to figure out in order to know where to go next. Once they successfully decoded all of their messages, we set off on a treasure hunt based on the directions they uncovered. This activity connected to our early world civilizations unit, as students explored how people in the past communicated using symbols and coded writing.
